Q: What does the contract say about planning time?
A: The amount of planning time you get is not determined by the contract, but by the Ohio Revised Code. Currently the ORC states that teachers are to get a minimum of 200 minutes per week to plan and prepare for their classes. |
Q: What are the criteria for receiving pay for the 6th period?
A: In order to qualify for pay for teaching an extra period all you must 1. have a curriculum for that class, 2. give grades to those students, and 3. create lesson plans for that class. |
Q: What is "Professional Time"?
A: Professional Time is the time during the teacher workday when students are not in the building. This time was added to the contract in 2002 in order to create a common time (without students) so teachers could meet with Principals, Guidance Counselors, Tutors, Psychs, team members, etc. because the student schedule did not allow these groups to meet with each other. This time was not intended to count as planning time when it was bargained. |
Q: Why can teachers only get the $25,000 retirement incentive when they are first eligible to retire?
A: If everyone recieved the incentive when they retired it wouldn't be an incentive, it would be a going away gift. We added the incentive to the contract so teachers would know it was there if they wanted it (when they are first eligible) so they could plan for their retirement accordingly. |
Q: Why did the health care deductible go up? Isn't that in the contract?
A: The amount of the deductible is not in the contract. It is determined by Federal Law, not the School District, or the insurance company. |
Q: Can I use a personal day next to a sick day?
A: Yes. Personal days can be use next to sick days but not next to unpaid leave. |
Q: What do I need to do to get a continuing contract?
A: You need to be in your fourth year in Dublin, have 30 semester hours of completed coursework if you obtained your licence with a Bachelor's or 6 hours of completed coursework if you obtained your license with a Master's. You must also send a letter to Bill Mulbarger at C.O. by September 20th simply stating that you meet the requirements and would like to be considered. |
